Originally designed to trap the heat from the open fire and protect the sitter from drafts, the wings are still a distinctive feature of these chairs today, although most chairs are more in proportion for our rooms of today. Wing chairs are usually smaller than fully upholstered designs with the legs (usually Queen Anne style) helping to create a lighter look. Chair styles vary from lounging to more formal sitting positions with seat heights ranging from standard to high.
